Need Torchwood, Miracle Day...STAT!

Wil Wheaton
Ugh, I am in the midst of switching over my cable co, but do not yet have Starz!

Is it streaming anywhere?

*needs Jack Harkness like woah*
Ten and the TARDIS
So, I've commented in somewhat length about "The End of Time" in this lj post, but it's been a day now and I'm still reflecting.  But rather than reflecting on the episode itself, I'm thinking about Ten's run as the Doctor.

And here it is.  For as much as this Doctor could be mercurial to the point where it angered you at how it affected his actions and the lives of those around him, for as much as he lost himself toward the end and became even unlikeable for a time, for as much as he fell into melancholy and had run out of time...good god, I love this Doctor.  I think it's exactly those issues, those intricacies in his character that made some people not like the Tenth Doctor, which have made him MY Doctor.

I love my characters flawed, almost broken, but still clawing their way out of the abyss to reach the sun.  It's one of the things that Ten loved so much about humans...how fitting that, as his journey made its way to the end, he began to fully embody those same qualities.  Ten is truly one of the most human Doctors we've had.  Come on, fear of death? This humanity seems to be one of the reasons that folks dislike Ten, but to me, it's exactly that humanity that develops and the way that it can't mesh with the near-immortality of the Time Lord existence that makes Ten's story so lovely and sad. In the end, he's emulated the race he loved so much that he really can't continue on forever.  Humans have a finite existence...and so does the Tenth Doctor.  And...somewhat spoilery... )

Oddly enough, for as much as I have been dreading it, I'm looking forward to seeing what Eleven will bring, but I think the thing that is making this transition easier is that I'm pretty sure that no one will supplant Ten for me.  And that's a lovely place to be in so that I can move on and watch the next series.

(Well, maybe I need a little bit of a breather first.  :)
Ten and the TARDIS
So...now that the weeping has stopped.

Seriously people, this was rough.  In both good and bad ways.

Let's start with the bad first

Things I didn't like about the episodes )

I'm on the fence about...

...one pretty big concept. )

Now, the oh so good.
Things that I really loved about these episodes.  )

So yes, character driving stuff to love.

But...I have a question, too.

About that woman... )

All in all, episodes that were uneven and didn't pack the punch of "The Waters of Mars," but that gave a gorgeous ended, quiet and sad, to a fabulous Doctor.

My Doctor.

Ten and the TARDIS
...and am a sobbing, quivering mess.

Everything that came before the ending, well, I'll have to reflect on it in a bit.  And I will.

But for now...oh, Doctor!

"Doomsday" broke my heart with Ten and Rose.

"Journey's End" broke my heart with Donna.  Oh, Donna.

And this?  Just broke my heart because of Ten.  Oh Ten, I shall miss you so.

(When I am NOT a quivering mess, I'll comment in more detail!)

OH MY GOD...

I just...I just can't even...I...*wibbles*

I cannot formulate anything more coherant than that right now, except for this:  I need one of you to hold me, dang it, because I am NOT going to be able to get through "The End of Time."

At all.

Can you tell that I'm reeeeeeeeeally trying to stretch these out?  I'm in those last few episodes where I'll get to see Ten in a brand new adventure and don't want to see his time end!  Yes, yes, I know Eleven is loved by many.  But...but...I'm having a hard time letting go and it's not even yet that time!

*sighs*

Anyway, on to "Planet of the Dead."  Just some quick thoughts...not my favorite epsicode so far, but it had some interesting moments.

Upon the watching of "Planet of the Dead" )

What did all of you think when you watched it?

Huh.  So THAT's what a film looks like when text masquerades as subtext.  Good to know.

And yes.  I liked it.

A couple of thoughts:

XMen First Class )

It's late, and that's all I got...what have you thought of it?
